“When you do something good for others, who are in need, never give up. My work makes me happy and busy and I’m sure we all motivate each other.”
Meet Amung, a cancer survivor and founder of AMG accessories, a fashion accessory venture in Arunachal Pradesh.
AMG Accessories started from March 2017 after her cancer treatment.
Amung comes across as a positive person, “Luckily everything went smooth just that I’m technically not professional and its bit difficult to find the right material but the fact that there are many good souls who are always ready to help and I’m sure I will figure it out.”
Amung is a fighter. She fought her disease, she fought all the self doubt and now, proudly owns a venture which not only helps survive the traditional art of handicrafts, but additionally, AMG accessories uses its profit to help cancer patients who can’t afford their treatments.
Her hardwork has landed AMG a foot in the ever increasing demand for traditional jewels. Its visible that, at present, the fashion demand has been consciously drifting to a fusion of traditional and modern craft.
Born in Itanagar, the capital city, she completed her BA from Delhi University and Masters in tourism management from IGNOU. She lost her dad in 2014 to throat cancer. Her mom is a government employee.
At the moment AMG accessories have 6 employees. Amung says its not even a year they have started the venture, and since it doesn’t count on profit, they struggle with the revenue. Yet, she has never thought of giving up, because as she puts it, “When you do something good for others, who are in need, never give up. My work makes me happy and busy and I’m sure we all motivate each other.”
AMG Accessories functions from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
She signs off, while she reminds all of us, “Obstacles are not something that we create for ourselves. So the best thing we can do is to accept it, and try to overcome them by staying positive.”
