A startup company, launched by some students of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) has won laurels at the recently held ELEVATE 100, an initiative of the Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka which aims to provide a comprehensive entrepreneurship platform for startups and fast-track entrepreneurship.
AfterglowTech (OPC) Pvt Ltd, the startup company has been selected as one of the most promising startups from 1800 companies across India at ELEVATE 100, organized by the Government of Karnataka on 29th August, 2017 at Hotel Lalit Ashok Bangalore after four layers of selection process. The company will be receiving grants of up to Rs 35 Crores as part of the initiative.
Incepted in the year 2017, Afterglow Tech (OPC) Pvt Ltd are engaged in manufacturing, wholesaling, trading and retailing excellent quality Street Light, Light Control Switch, etc. Located at Bengaluru, Karnataka, the company has developed a state-of-the-art infrastructural facility. The company is engaged is design of low cost and energy efficient street lamps. The streetlamps have constantly proved to have energy savings of approximately 60-65% compared to the conventional streetlamps that are being deployed.
The short-listed startups will also have access to the government’s start-up fund besides access to government Venture Capital funds, pilots, private Venture Capital funds, world class accelerators and mentors. Afterglow Tech will be deploying its smart street lights across the SMIT campus in the coming months and are focused on bringing this technology to Sikkim as well as north east. With “Commitment to Excellence” being the motto of the company is focused on enabling smart cities in India currently working with both government and private organizations.
The company was registered in 2016 under Sikkim Manipal University Technology Business Incubator under SMIT (SMUTBI-SMIT) with Mr. Ashish Anand, a student of Information Technology Department as the CEO of the company and Mr. Shailesh Verma and Mr. Shaddab Ahmed as founder members.
In line with the pursuit of the Government of India, the Manipal Group has been persistent in its endeavor to nurturing and developing innovation and entrepreneurial skills among its faculty and students, as well as people of the region. The Manipal University Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) is an initiative of Manipal University solely set up to further this cause.
As part of the MUTBI, SMUTBI-SMIT has been encouraging and mentoring students to take up the initiatives of startups and join the competition with the mainstream part of the country at the Sikkim Manipal University Technology and Business Incubator. The incubator at present has 6 startups at its early stage of gestation. All the companies have been registered under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India and is been funded by the Dr. Ramdas Pai and Dr. Vasanthi Pai Endowment Fund. Amongst the many achievements, one provisional patent has been granted in the field of Artificial Intelligence based cycle to one of the group. This year, SMIT expects to double the number of startups in the campus and register another 5 companies.
